OXFORD United confidently swept aside Fulham's development side 3-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Roman Way.

Danny Hylton, Tom Newey and Jon Meades were all on target in the first half to give the U's their fifth win from five pre-season games.

Hylton opened the scoring on eight minutes, when he won and converted a penalty.

It was the striker's first goal since joining the U's this summer.

Tom Newey doubled the lead on 25 minutes, powerfully heading in David Hunt's cross.

The undoubted highlight of the game came four minutes before the break.

Collecting the ball 30 yards out, Meades advanced and jinked into the box before unleashing a powerful shot into the net.

New loan signing George Long had little chance to show off his skills as Fulham rarely ventured forward, before the goalkeeper was replaced at the break as planned by Max Crocombe.

Hylton came close to a second goal when the game resumed, but after turning smartly his shot was cleared off the line.

Substitute Josh Shama twice came close to extending the advantage in the final 20 minutes, forcing one good save and blazing another effort just over.

United are next in action at home to Wolves on Tuesday night.
