A theatre has written a statement after 'concern' about drag queen show for children.

Chipping Norton Theatre released the statement today, ahead of Drag Queen Story Hour UK, which is set to perform at the theatre on April 2.

Drag Queen Story Hour UK provides “fun and interactive kids shows” which aim to show “the world that being different is not a bad thing”.

The theatre said there were “some expressions of concern from members of the public” about the show which will take place this weekend.

However, the theatre is “confident” the performance is age appropriate and “well suited for the advertised age group”.

The theatre went on to say that the nature of the event “clearly” advertised and those who will attend feel “comfortable and positive about its content”.

In the statement, Chipping Norton Theatre added: “We have no reservation in programming this event and supporting those involved in it.”

The full statement reads: “As the only live arts venue serving a diverse community, we are pleased to host and support a wide range of artists and audience experiences at The Theatre. We are aware of some expressions of concern from members of the public regarding this weekend's performance of Drag Queen Story Hour UK, but are confident that the performance is appropriate and well suited for the advertised age group. Parents who attended a previous performance shared very positive feedback about the event, its suitability for younger audiences, and their children’s enjoyment of it.

“The nature of the event is clearly advertised, and we believe will attract those who feel comfortable and positive about its content. Aida, the performer this Saturday, is a patron of Autistic Inclusive Meets London, a professional author, and a five star Edinburgh Fringe act, and has been featured on Forbes Magazine for being a activist for neurodivergence. “We look forward to welcoming audiences to these events in the coming weeks and months, and ensuring our Theatre remains a home for everyone.
