A HELICOPTER was required to take a cyclist to hospital following a collision.

Thames Valley Police’s West Oxfordshire branch attended the scene after a car and cyclist were involved in an incident at the Burwell estate in Witney.

Posting online, the force wrote: “Officers have attended a collision involving a cyclist and a car on the Burwell estate.

“With the help of paramedics and their helicopter, the cyclist has been conveyed to hospital.

“If you are out cycling, please remember to wear a helmet.”

The police came under fire for the last part of the message, which was described as ‘disappointing’.

Freddie Jackson said: “When people get stabbed, do you ask the general public to remember to wear stab vests?”

Russell Kingston added: “Because a helmet would have made all the difference. Stop victim blaming and check the evidence.”

However, Ady Suter said: “Good advice. Hope they’re not too badly hurt and are up and about soon.”
