People across Oxfordshire are bracing themselves as record-breaking temperatures are expected to hit the county.

The Met Office has issued a red weather alert for ‘extreme heat’ today (July 18) and tomorrow (July 19), with temperatures predicted to hit 40°C in some parts of England.

The weather forecaster has warned there will widespread impacts on people’s health, infrastructure and transport due to the heat.

In Oxfordshire, the weather will be extremely hot throughout the day.

The temperature will be at its hottest this afternoon between 2pm and 4pm, when it will 36°C.

Weather forecast for the wider South East:

Today

Dry with widespread sunshine into the afternoon as any early cloud melts away. Becoming very hot as temperatures rise quickly into the day, with only a light breeze for most. Temperatures coolest toward the south coast. Maximum temperature 37°C.

Tonight

Patchy cloud likely into the evening and overnight but staying dry. Temperatures remaining very warm for all, but particularly so for urban areas. Minimum temperature 23°C.
