Two Scout Volunteers have been selected to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree in Korea.

George Priddey-Mill, 17, and Jack Blake, 18, from Witney, have been selected to play a key role at the largest Scout Jamboree to be held in South Korea during 2023.

It will be the largest Scout camp to be held since the start of the Covid pandemic with more than 50,000 young people due to take part.

George and Jack are two of 950 adult volunteers that have been selected to represent the UK as part of the International Service Team (IST).

George said: “I’m really excited to go on this once in a lifetime opportunity to South Korea. Scouting has taught me many great life skills such as teamwork and I’m looking forward to enhancing them at the Jamboree whilst meeting people from across the world.”

The Jamboree will be a skills, cultural and adventure festival.

Witney Gazette:

George and Jack will be part of a multinational team who are volunteering to spend their summer holiday helping young people have an adventure of a lifetime, while thinking about global issues.

The 6,000 strong IST are the unsung heroes of the event. They will undertake a variety of roles from planning and delivering activities for thousands of participants every day, to providing key services such as medical, catering, and infrastructure.

Between now and July 2023, George and Jack will be supporting their local unit of young people that will go to the Jamboree, as well as using their journey to Korea to inspire others in the local area.

Jack said: “I’m so pleased to be selected to represent the UK at the World Scout Jamboree. It’s going to be a real personal challenge for me and I hope to develop my organisation and management skills.

"It’s going to be amazing working as part of an international team on the other side of the world.”

UK Chief Scout Bear Grylls has congratulated the pair.

He said: "World Scout Jamborees only happen every four years and tens of thousands of Scouts from across the world attend each one. Young people could not take part in these life changing events without the support of adult volunteers like George and Jack.

"Over the last couple of years adult volunteers have played an important part in holding our communities together. Now is their chance to have an adventure. I say #Goodforyou to all those volunteers who want to be part of this adventure.”
