Fire crews were faced with a serious kitchen fire at the weekend.

On Sunday (November 13), firefighters from Abingdon fire station and Slade Park Fire Station raced to a kitchen blaze in Hawkins Way, Wootton.

Crews arrived around 1.50pm and were immediately faced with a serious kitchen fire,

They quickly entered the property wearing breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire using a high pressure hose reel.

Crew Manager Mat Barlow said "This could have been a much more serious fire if the occupier, who was out at the time, hadn't closed all of the doors before leaving the house. This kept the fire in one room, and limited the damage.

"Smoke Alarms also alerted neighbours to the fire, so please ensure that you have smoke detectors in your property".
