Hit series Succession will come to an end this year with the last-ever season.

The latest instalment of the show, which launched on Sunday, continues to follow the dysfunctional Roy family as they fight for control of their father’s empire.

Star Brian Cox, who plays Logan Roy, has insisted he's not based on Oxfordshire resident Rupert Murdoch.

Before Succession premiered, Jesse Armstrong, the creator, also said the characters are a fictional family.

However, a few years ago, Armstrong wrote a screenplay about the inner workings of the Murdoch family that was never produced.

And it is easy to see how the families could be compared.

What are the Murdochs' links to Oxfordshire?

In 2020 Rupert Murdoch reportedly bought Great Tew Manor near Chipping Norton to do up for £30million.

If true the centuries-old manor house, which is derelict, would make him close to two of his children.

James Murdoch owns the rectory at Broughton, a seven bedroom country house next to the historic moated Broughton Castle.

Meanwhile Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth used to own Grade I-listed Burford Priory with her ex-husband PR supremo Matthew Freud, owner of Freud Communications.

In 2022 the Murdoch dynasty congregated in Oxfordshire for the wedding of their daughter Charlotte Freud at St Mary’s Church in Westwell near Burford.

Pictures showed the bride, who now goes by the name Tiarlie, dressed in punk clothing and heavily tattooed for her wedding to musician Luke Storey.

Guests included TV presenter Claudia Winkleman and Hollywood actor Woody Harrelson.

Her grandfather, billionaire media mogul Mr Murdoch was also there but not his fourth wife, Jerry Hall, following news that the couple were divorcing.

Mr Murdoch was then reportedly served with divorce papers as he was boarding his private jet at RAF Brize Norton after the wedding.

As part of the settlement, it was reported that Mr Murdoch gave Ms Hall Holmwood House, a Georgian country estate near Henley, which the couple had bought in 2019.

All seasons of Succession are available on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
