JOE Bennett has gone for a scan to determine the extent of his calf injury picked up in midweek.

The left back was withdrawn during first half stoppage time of Oxford United’s 1-0 defeat at home to Barnsley.

He was replaced by Greg Leigh, who returned from a calf injury of his own earlier this month.

U’s head coach Des Buckingham said of Bennett: “He goes for a scan, there’s not much you can do the day after.

“It was just a case of letting the swelling go down, but there wasn’t much of it. We’ve sent him for a scan, so we should then know a little bit more.

“You start to get a bit more depth, and then you get tested straight away. Greg is good to go, and we know the quality he’ll bring to us.”

Sam Long meanwhile has been ruled out of the weekend’s trip to Bristol Rovers after suffering suspected concussion.

Buckingham said: “He came off with a pretty nasty gash, it’s a pretty big split down the side of his head.

“It was an accidental elbow, but he’s gone away and had stitches put in.

“We’ll follow the protocol, but he’ll be unavailable for this weekend. It’s just making sure he’s in the right condition for when we do field him again.

“It’s down to the medical team and the doctor now, and working out if it is concussion.”

“Steph [Negru] will come back into the squad, and Josh Murphy will be touch and go as to whether he makes the squad,” added Buckingham.
