Significant disruption is expected at Oxfordshire hospitals due to industrial action set to take place later this month.

Junior doctors, including those at Oxford University Hospitals, will go on strike from 7am on February 24 until midnight on February 28.

Patient appointments and waiting times are expected to be impacted, most notably at emergency departments.

The four affected hospitals are located in Oxford and Banbury.

All impacted patients are being contacted directly and rescheduled appointments will be allotted at the earliest possible date.

Chief operating officer at Oxford University Hospitals, Sara Randall, said: "As always, our priority is to keep patients safe during planned industrial action while delivering the best care possible.

“It is really important that patients who need urgent medical care continue to come forward as normal.

“Our urgent and emergency care services are highly likely to be affected by the upcoming industrial action in terms of waiting times."

People are encouraged to consider alternatives like NHS 111 online, local pharmacy, a minor injuries unit, or their GP for non-emergency healthcare, to preserve resources for those in true emergencies.

Ms Randall added: "Our staff are working extremely hard during a very challenging time – please do treat them with respect.

"There are no excuses for aggressive or abusive behaviour.

"Thank you for your understanding and co-operation during another period of industrial action."
