Sir – I would like to thank Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron for his support for ebola sufferers in Sierra Leone.
I am not a member or supporter of the Conservative Party – in fact I’m a Labour Party member and have stood in council elections in Witney – but the recently-announced commitment by the Government to supply 700 hospital beds for the treatment of victims of the ebola virus, together with other logistical support, is news welcomed by Sierra Leoneans living in the Prime Minister’s constituency, the rest of the UK and beyond.
As a former British colony, Sierra Leone has had and continues to have strong links with the UK through diplomatic ties, culture, trade and tourism.
One example of UK support to Sierra Leone was during the 11-year civil war, when the then Prime Minister Tony Blair sent troops and logistical support to salvage the lives of thousands of civilians (including myself) trapped behind rebel lines in Sierra Leone – one of the finest achievements of British foreign policy, that is rarely referred to by the British media.
Thank you, Mr Cameron, for your continued support. We hope and pray that this special relationship continues between the UK and Sierra Leone.
Alfred Fullah, Judds Close, Witney
