Sir – I appreciate that Mr Richman is upset at his son injuring himself trying to climb Minster Lovell Hall’s ruins (last week’s Witney Gazette) but surely the fault is not with English Heritage for not putting up signs.
Calling for signs and/or barriers seems to be an excuse to deflect the blame.
I wonder what warning signs and/or barriers Mr Richman has erected at his abode to prevent his son climbing on to the roof or some other unsuitable structure?
Are there trees nearby that his son might climb and fall out of?
Maybe these need signs and barriers to prevent him climbing those as well.
The River Windrush runs close by the ruins. Maybe English Heritage should consider redirecting the river, covering it over or draining it, in case someone carelessly falls in.
Facetiousness apart, here’s a thought: why not just educate children not to do stupid things and let everyone else, blessed with common sense, enjoy a beauty spot unhindered, as thousands have done for decades past?
Common sense evidently seems to be uncommon.
