Shoppers are being urged to support small businesses on this weekend’s Small Business Saturday.

It's time to use the annual event as a chance to recognise the contribution of independent businesses to communities during lockdown.

Here’s five reasons to do your Christmas shopping in Witney:

Independent shops

Witney has a unique blend of shops, from large stores including Waitrose, WH Smith and Waterstones to many smaller shops such as Rapture record store.

Dotted around the town you will find a host of smaller independents offering a unique shopping experience.

Corn Street has many independent shops including Greenway Antiques where you will find Georgian fire tools and accessories, antique furniture, and decorative items for the home and garden.

At the bottom of High Street you will find the excellent T4 Cameras and The Wesley Walk and Waterloo Walk shopping arcades.

Coffeesmith’s little shop serves quality speciality coffee and their house blend, Resolute by Origin. Their friendly team always provide a warm welcome, alongside great coffee and great food.

Next door Sota gallery is filled with gorgeous works of art, ceramics, sculptures and jewellery from affordable gifts to serious collecting.

Teddy Bears of Witney has a large variety of bears for all tastes and age groups.

Lily’s Attic is a unique shop with a lovely inglenook fireplace and original beams. The lifestyle shop has most of the jewellery and accessories displayed in beautiful dressers and on shabby chic furniture, giving a shabby chic feel.

Wates and Co delicatessen At Wates & Co is stocked to the brim with produce from local suppliers.

The Vibes

Witney might have grown rapidly but still retains the feel of a charming and bustling market town with a twice weekly market.

Architecture

The high street Boots under 17th-century gables is a vision of honey-coloured, green-wellied living on the edge of the Cotswolds. Church Green, with its lawn flanked by trees and 18th-century town houses, is as pretty as anywhere in the land. As is the Buttercross, with its fat, squat pillars.

Parking

Big, big plus. Parking is free in all West Oxfordshire District Council car parks.

Marriotts Walk

Eight levels of free parking, getting to the shops couldn’t be easier. Marriotts Walk shopping centre brought more big names to the town, including Marks & Spencer and Jo Jo Maman Bebe. There's also Fat Face, New Look, Hobbs, Phase Eight and Trespass.
