Tim Hook hit his first ball into the sightscreen for six to clinch a three-wicket victory for Oxford Downs 2nd in the Cherwell League Division 3 game at Sandford St Martin.

The hosts almost defended their modest 109, after all bar Jim Howe (31) struggled against Nick Rivett (5-15) and Steve Roberts (4-48).

Downs made it three wins from three thanks to James Ellwood (49no) and Hook’s blow with three balls to spare.

Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd were reduced to 16-5 at Dinton 2nd when heavy rain arrived.

The visitors fared little better when the weather relented, reaching 55 all out, Faisal Ali taking 6-28.

Dinton dashed to 57 without loss inside nine overs.

Morning Division 4 leaders Great & Little Tew 2nd won praise from their opponents but nothing else after their brave run chase came up short.

Buckingham 2nd posted 140-6 from 40 overs thanks to Andrew Thatcher (63no).

Tew’s reply was reduced to 29 overs by rain and they went for the win.

But Dom Pritchard took 5-59 as they were bowled out for 138 with three balls left.

Witney Mills were left hanging on for a draw at Kingston Bagpuize.

Matt Warner hit an unbeaten 50 and then took 5-24 for the hosts.

Martin Shepherd made 44 in Kingston’s 173-7 from 43 overs, before Mills’ reply finished on 108-9.

There was a thrilling climax in Division 8 where Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd’s home game with Wallingford 2nd finished in a draw with scores level.

Stuart Edwards (54), Mark Cox (36) and James Hopkins (30) shone in Wallingford’s 178-5, while Robert Seymour (4-28) was the pick of the bowlers.

Donald Hare (88) and Graham Nelson (43) led Shipton’s reply, which closed one run short of victory on 178-7 as Ricky Prescott took 4-23.
