CHASTLETON trainer John Gallagher revealed he almost pulled Majestic Moon out of the Fly London Southend Airport Handicap at Ascot on Saturday before the gelding gave him the most valuable success of his 15-year career.
Soon in front under Michael J M Murphy in the seven-furlong contest, the 12-1 chance was overhauled by Suzi’s Connoisseur, but fought back gamely to capture the £49,800 first prize by half a length.
Gallagher said: “Without over emphasising the point, while not unexpected, that was huge.
“Even more so as after speaking to his owner, Mark Goodall, I almost pulled him out as I wanted the ground to dry out to good.”
Majestic Moon could now go for the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, September 19.
Meanwhile, Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon holds his annual open morning at his Hull Farm Stables on Saturday.
Visitors will get the chance to see horses schooling before he parades his powerful string, which includes the likes of Kilcooley, Kalane, Grandads Horse and last Saturday’s Stratford winner, Hepijeu.
Gates open at 10am and entry is a £2 donation to the Riding for the Disabled Association.
