TYLER Burey is in contention to make his first Oxford United start, after a solid showing from the bench at the weekend.

The 23-year-old winger joined the U’s on loan from Danish side Odense on January 10, and has so far been limited to a couple of substitute appearances while he builds up match sharpness.

After leaving Millwall in the summer, Burey saw his game time limited in Denmark, playing in just six league matches before the winter break. Five of those appearances came as a substitute.

However, after catching the eye in the second half of United’s loss at Bristol Rovers, head coach Des Buckingham is ready to throw Burey in from the start when his side welcomes Sky Bet League One leaders Portsmouth tonight.

He said: “I’ve spoken about bringing wingers in, as it allows us to play a different way.

“With Tyler, it was more about managing his minutes to get him back where he was.

“He’d been on the winter break since December and hadn’t played since the start of December.

“He came in and got half an hour off the bench against Barnsley and 45 minutes at Bristol Rovers, so it’s just a case of how he’s responded to that.

“He’s in contention to start, like a lot of others.”
