DES Buckingham says there will likely be transfer news from Oxford United within the next 24 hours, after Blackpool winger Owen Dale was spotted watching United’s draw at home to Portsmouth.

U’s head coach Buckingham has publicly revealed the club is looking to recruit a right-sided forward and a striker during the closing days of the January transfer window.

Dale, who has featured regularly as a wing back in Blackpool’s favoured 3-5-2 system this season, would appear to tick the box of the right-sided attacker though, having spent the majority of his career out wide.

The 25-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Pompey, was seen in the stands at Grenoble Road, and later in the tunnel at full-time.

Asked about the player, and a potential move to the club, United boss Buckingham said: “There’ll probably be some more news to come from us within the next 24 hours, but we always get players come and watch their old teams, whether it be the opposition or ours.

“We’ll wait and see what the next 24 hours brings, in that space.”

He added: “There’s a plan to bring two in, whether one is the player mentioned or another one, but certainly another centre forward is what we’re looking at.

“You’ve seen tonight, we want to play three up front and continue pressing opposition teams.

“To do that, you need five or six forwards who can you bring on and rotate through a game, because we want to continue putting pressure on.

“It’s another centre forward who could maybe double up as a winger as well, that will be on our shopping list.”

Dale has scored four goals in 32 games, across all competitions for the Seasiders, so far this campaign.
