JAMIE Cumming ranks his wonder save against Blackpool as one of the best he has made in his career so far.

With the score at 1-1 just before the hour mark, the 24-year-old Chelsea loanee reacted brilliantly to get a glove on Matt Pennington’s header, from an Albie Morgan free kick on the right-hand side.

It was a fantastic save from a goalkeeper who believes he has now settled at Oxford United after joining the club on loan last month, following a lengthy period without playing.

Discussing his save from Pennington, he said: “It’s my best for the club so far and I think one of my best ever to be fair. It felt like a good one at the time.

“It’s one of those instinctive reaction saves which sometimes just happen. After it, you don’t really know how it happened, but it was a good save.

“I feel like it’s taken a few games because I’ve come from not playing for six months. To come in and hit the ground running straight away was going to be difficult, but I feel like I’ve really settled now and I’m ready to kick on for the rest of the season.”

The U’s are winless in five games, leaving them seventh in the Sky Bet League One table, a point behind sixth-placed Stevenage.

Cumming is confident that United are capable of putting a run together and fighting for the play-offs at a minimum this season.

He said: “We’ve got a good squad and a lot of talent. Every team in this division will go through patches where you don’t win games, but if we can put a run together now, we’ll be up in the play-offs and pushing towards the top two.

“There are some strong teams up there, but equally, everyone is going to drop points, so we really need to capitalise and put a run together.”

Cumming was one of five players to return from injury for the trip to Blackpool, alongside Sam Long, Billy Bodin, Josh Murphy and Will Goodwin.

Cumming and Long both started the game in Lancashire, with attacking trio Bodin, Murphy and Goodwin all coming off the bench.

“We’ve got a few players coming back from injury and we saw at the weekend that we had a few lads coming off the bench, and really made an impact on the game,” said Cumming.

“The squad getting stronger towards the end of the season is only going to be a positive for us.”
