THE lateness of the injuries suffered by Elliott Moore and Marcus McGuane meant Oxford United head coach Des Buckingham was unable to put a timeframe on their potential returns.

Both players were ruled out on Friday, for the trip to Wycombe Wanderers.

Moore suffered a hip problem, while a quad injury ensured McGuane would not play a part against the Chairboys.

Both players are expected to be short-term absentees, however the U’s are back in action on Tuesday night at home to Northampton Town, therefore it’s a possibility that game could come too soon for the duo.

Buckingham said: “I’ll know more after this. They’ve both gone for scans – I think we’re keeping the scanning machine in business at the moment, and I might take some shares out myself.

“If they can be available, they will be. Elliott gives us that level of calmness across the group, and that’s what your captain does.”

January loan signing Tyler Burey wasn’t named in the matchday squad yesterday, after being an unused substitute for the midweek win at home to Wigan Athletic.

Asked about Burey’s absence, Buckingham said: “We lost both Marcus McGuane and Elliott. It was about making sure we had what we needed.

“Unfortunately for Tyler, I spoke to him, and it involved him moving out of the squad.

“We felt we needed cover in other areas, and if we needed some pace on that left-hand side, we felt we could put Joe Bennett on and push Greg Leigh further forward.”
