DES Buckingham was happy with what he saw from Marcus Browne in his cameo as a striker in the draw at Shrewsbury Town.

The Oxford United attacker has primarily played as a winger for the club, but has been utilised at times as an advanced midfielder or centre forward.

Against the Shrews, Buckingham introduced Browne from the bench with just over 20 minutes to go, in a straight swap with Mark Harris.

United’s head coach explained: ‘’I thought Josh Murphy and Owen Dale were playing well, so didn’t really want to disrupt that.

“We’re still not sure on Will [Goodwin] for Monday, so it was making sure we got minutes into Marcus, and it gives us options on Monday should we need them, to have some flexibility there.

“I thought he did well when he came on and gives us a bit of a presence, and can play ball to feet, and he created two wonderful chances.

“It’s not a position that he’s unfamiliar with, he’s played there before, and he’s played both wings, and as a 10, so he’s pretty versatile in that front line.

“We felt that with the way the game was playing, he’d be able to have a bit more about him, and open up space for the two 10s behind.”
