DIDCOT Town put in a hard-fought display to come away with a point against BetVictor Southern League Division 1 Central high-flyers Bedford Town.

The Railwaymen matched their opponents throughout the 90 minutes and had chances to win the contest, but the game ended honours even.

Didcot started brightly and Jack Longford could have given the hosts the perfect start after just three minutes.

Confusion in the Bedford defence almost let the Didcot man in, but the keeper came quickly off his line to save.

The home side continued to threaten, with George Reid and Tom Stanley looking bright, before Longford was forced off through injury on 34 minutes and replaced by Denilson Silva.

Stanley had a header saved two minutes after the restart, but both sides struggled to create many clear chances.

Didcot continued to threaten, with captain Luke Carnell seeing his header saved on the 70-minute mark.

Silva looped a header over in the closing stages, but the hosts were unable to find a way through.

The draw takes Didcot up a place to 16th ahead of their Oxfordshire derby with North Leigh on Boxing Day.

The Millers lost 2-0 at Daventry Town in a game where 16-year-old Charlie Twiss started in goal.

The teenager was beaten just seven minutes into his league debut when a corner found its way to the back post, where it was nodded home from close range.

North Leigh created several chances and stayed in the game, with both sides having goals ruled out for offside.

But the visitors sealed the points through a slice of luck when a Daventry corner looped inside the far post with seven minutes left.

The goal was harsh on the hosts and came against the run of play, but they were unable to find a goal of their own to set up a big finish.

Kidlington were beaten 5-1 at Barton Rovers in a scoreline that flattered the hosts.

Anaclet Odhiambo and Lewis Gabbidon saw headers fly wide in the first 15 minutes, before the former put his side ahead with just over half an hour played.

Barton responded quickly to make it 1-1 at half-time, before they went ahead within a minute of the restart.

The hosts increased their lead on 54 minutes and added two goals in the final moments to wrap up the win.

Thame United’s home game against AFC Dunstable and Wantage Town’s clash with Yaxley were called off.

Banbury United’s Premier Division match at home to Needham Market was also washed out.
