Drivers were forced to drive within 30mph

3:21pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – One benefit the recent snow brought to the icy, untreated Witney Road in and out of Ducklington was that all drivers were forced to drive within the 30mph speed limit, rather than the 25 per cent of responsible drivers who normally did so.

Thank you for help

3:28pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – I am writing on behalf of the patients and staff of Chipping Norton Community Hospital to extend our grateful thanks to all the members of the community who assisted the team to keep the hospital running in the recent inclement weather.

We have to push for a railway

3:20pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – I think the building of 7,000 houses in West Oxfordshire is excessive and is not designed to cater for our natural population growth, but rather for the growth within the whole south-east region.

Breathing space

3:22pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – Am I the only person who thinks that the idea of building another 7,000 houses in West Oxfordshire is lunacy?

Replace crossing

3:23pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – How logical was it to remove the pedestrian crossing when the council were aware that in addition to a car park there would be a major shopping centre on the site (Gazette, January 13).

RBL thanks

3:24pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – It seems that once again coverage of Remembrance Day has been focused on Witney, Bampton, and Burford.

Well done

3:26pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – Congratulations to Dairy Crest and Newslinks for not missing a delivery of milk or newspapers during the snow.

‘Foolish virgins’

3:26pm Tuesday 26th January 2010

Sir – Jesus told a parable about The Ten Virgins: five were wise and five were foolish. They needed oil for their lamps, so the five wise virgins got their oil in advance. The other five left it too late, and there was none when they needed it.

Road accident

3:01pm Tuesday 19th January 2010

Sir – I would sincerely like to thank all passengers travelling on the Stagecoach bus and passing the Somerfield Store in Witney on Saturday, January 9, at about 3.15pm, when a collision occurred between the bus and my car.

Snow on pavements

3:03pm Tuesday 19th January 2010

Sir – On Saturday, January 9, as I saw a large group of local people helping a fallen pensioner outside Martins Newsagent, in Witney, I reflected on county councillor Keith Mitchell’s comments that we all lack the `British spirit that defeated Hitler.
