The Kingham Plough: Memorable cuisine

The Kingham Plough

12:00pm Friday 3rd May 2013

YOU know you are getting the very best of seasonal produce at The Kingham Plough — because the menu changes daily to reflect it.

The Lamb Inn, Burford: Return to form

Restaurant manager Bill Ramsay at the Lamb Inn in Burford

1:00pm Friday 19th April 2013

IT IS nice to revisit a restaurant and find it has really upped its game — and that was the happy state of affairs when I ate at The Lamb Inn in Burford recently.

The Killingworth Castle, Wootton: Back in business

Licensee Jim Alexander at the Killingworth Castle

12:00pm Friday 12th April 2013

THERE is nothing better than a warm welcome and a warm fire to lure you in on an icy evening, and that was exactly what we found when we arrived at the Killingworth Castle.

The Old Swan, Minster Lovell: A warm welcome

The Old Swan at Minster Lovell

12:00pm Friday 5th April 2013

AS WE arrived in the car park of The Old Swan at Minster Lovell it was blowing a gale and freezing sleet was lashing down onto snow-covered ground.

The Marlborough Arms, Woodstock: Recently refurbished old inn

8:07am Thursday 14th August 2008

I WOULD have liked to have featured the recently refurbished Three Horseshoes, in Corn Street, Witney, this week, but at the time of writing, the refurbishment was not quite finished.

The Wheatsheaf Inn, Northleach: Old inn with impressive fireplaces

8:27am Thursday 31st July 2008

THE weather forecast was not good - but I've got so used to packing my Wellingtons when we go for a dog walk nowadays that my friend Liz and I arranged our visit to Northleach anyway.

The Marlborough, Witney: Overlooking Market Square

3:23pm Wednesday 23rd July 2008

THERE is a great buzz in the centre of Witney on the third Wednesday of every month, as this is the farmers' market day. The market used to be held on Church Green on a Thursday. Its move to Witney's attractive Market Square has made all the difference to the amount of customers now visiting the market.

The Kingsbridge Inn, Bourton-on-the-Water: An attractive pub next to the river

2:19pm Wednesday 16th July 2008

DESPITE the dark clouds and spots of rain, I bundled the dog into the car and set off with my friend Liz for Bourton-on-the-Water.

The White Horse, Stonesfield: A splendid little pub

3:49pm Tuesday 15th July 2008

WELL, it might look a rather austere, unassuming sort of building, standing as it does on a road named The Ridings, which passes straight through Stonesfield, but don't let appearances fool you.

The Strickland Arms, Ducklington: A real gem of a pub

2:20pm Wednesday 2nd July 2008

I ADMIT to feeling ashamed that I've driven straight past The Strickland Arms, which stands tucked away from the Witney Road, Ducklington, many times without ever calling in.
