A POPULAR RAF serviceman killed in a West Oxfordshire road accident had celebrated his 22nd birthday just 48 hours before his death.

Jack Webster died on Sunday when his silver Peugeot 207 crashed near the B4477 slip road from the westbound A40 near Witney.

Police and emergency services were called at 5.02am but Mr Webster, who lived in Witney, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Floral tributes were laid near the accident spot yesterday and messages of support for his family poured in across social networking sites.

Mr Webster, originally from Southport, Merseyside, joined the RAF as a mechanical engineer at RAF Brize Norton in 2010.

Devastated friends and family left messages of support on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

Schoolfriend, Davy Smith, 21, living in Melbourne, said: ”Still struggling to comprehend the news. A lad that was one of a kind and a lad who lived life to the full. If you ever wanted a memorable night out, Jack Webster was the lad to call. You will not be forgotten Webbo lad, and there will always be a hole that only you could fill.”

Another Southport friend Mark Djtrdmrk Peet said: “RIP Jack Webster. An absolute top guy, will be sorely missed by everyone he met.”

RAF Brize Norton said Mr Webster was not on duty at the time of the crash. A spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with family and friends at this time.”

A 24-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman also in the car were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Their injuries were said to be not life threatening.

The slip road was closed and reopened at about 9am. No other vehicles were involved.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact them.
