STUDENTS from Burford School are taking to the stage in a production of Scrooge this week.

More than 40 pupils in years seven and nine are performing or working behind the scenes.

The school’s head of English, Edward Scates, wrote the script, which combines elements of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl.

Head of drama Gry Nielsen said: “The production is a mixture of humour and suspense, with a little bit of music. It’s just lovely to see all the children being amazing.

“You really see them in a new light when they do plays like this.”

Scrooge is the first play to be staged in the school’s new drama studio, which was opened by the actor Robert Hardy.

The show opened last night, and continues tonight, tomorrow and Friday at 7pm. Tickets cost £5 from the Cheltenham Road school’s reception or are available on the door.
