Abingdon students turn spotlight on employers in webinars
STUDENTS turned the tables on bosses by asking them what they want from new recruits.
Employers are being put under the spotlight by youngsters at Abingdon & Witney College who are running “webinars” – live question-and-answer sessions streamed on the internet.
The aim is to help the teenagers who are studying for A-Levels and BTEC advanced diplomas better prepare for job interviews and boost their career prospects.
One of the 14 students on the project, Aaron Scott, said: “It’s a very interesting project and it will help me in the future.”
Fellow student Melanie Overy added: “It’s very helpful to hear from employers and to be able to ask them questions.”
Employers involved in the project include accountants Wenn Townsend, Waitrose, Puma Hotels and Harwell Oxford science centre.
Project Manager, Emma Procter-Legg, said: “As well as running the sessions, the students will produce a student-centred guide to running a webinar and the Q&As with employers are recorded for use by future courses.
“The students will also take part in a student-led conference on the theme of employability skills, using video conferencing and webinars.”
