YOUNG musicians from West Oxfordshire will be vying to succeed Elizabeth Shelmerdine as the Young Musician of the Year at this year’s Concertante Society Young People’s Concert in Ascott-under-Wychwood.

The event takes place at the Tiddy Hall, in Shipton Road, at 7.30pm on Saturday.

Among those playing will be piano pupils of Pauline Carter, from the Roseneath School of Music, who teaches in Witney, Ascott and Shipton-under-Wychwood.

As well as the top title, the prizes include The Lavelle Cup, for scales and technical requirements, and awards for the most promising pupils at Combe and Leafield primary schools.

To reserve tickets, which cost £8 for adults and £4 for under-18s, call Mrs Carter on 01993 774568.
