JANE Slater celebrated completing her first ever triathlon with a big hug from her six-year-old son Isaac.
The 45-year-old French teacher, of Manor Road, Witney, was one of around 200 people completing in the Carterton triathlon yesterday.
She said: “It was the first one I have ever done.
“He is very proud of me I hope.
“He wants to do the junior one at Blenheim next year.”
Triathletes from as far as Italy and Scotland travelled to Oxfordshire to take part in the event, with ages ranging from 11 to 76.
Adult competitors swam either 16 lengths at Carterton Leisure Centre, or 60 lengths for Olympians, a 20kilometre bicycle circuit, twice around for Olympic participants, then finish with a 5k or 10k run.
Juniors swam eight laps of the pool, biked four kilometres and ran one kilometre.
It was organised by Better Leisure, which run the council’s sports centres in west Oxfordshire.
Rob Gunn, duty manager at Carterton Leisure Centre, said: “It’s been good.
“Overall it has been positive and a good experience for the local area.”
