Joshua Baker, 16, suffers from Asperger’s and yesterday achieved his goal of getting into sixth-form.
He achieved one B, five Cs and two Ds. In one maths exam he got every single question right.
He said: “I’m feeling absolutely brilliant at the moment. I was so worried. When I looked at the results last year, when they were the lowest in 20 years, I was thinking am I going to be affected by this?
“I wanted to be able to do the best I can so I can get the best career in the future, but I was absolutely terrified.”
He added: “Having Asperger’s, you know from an early age you are different but you just think fair enough, this is me, this is the way I was made.
“But I knew I was different and I knew I would be treated differently. I’m not really a sociable person – I have never sent a text in my life.
“It isn’t easy but I got through it on my love of history. I can remember things off by heart and I love learning about the world wars. My history teacher said I’m a walking, talking, encyclopaedia.
He said he had never met anyone more knowledgeable than me.”
Joshua now plans to study geography, ICT, science and history A-Levels at Burford School.
His mum Lyndsay Baker, 47, from Carterton, said: “I’m just really, really pleased he has done so well.
“He is quite academic and he has got a very good memory, which is part of his autism, and he just sucks in information.
“I had every confidence he could do it.”
