A FLOOD warning has just been issued for the River Thames through Oxford.
The warning, issued by the Environment Agency, covers the main river channel and its tributaries in Botley, West Oxford, Osney, New Hinksey, North Hinksey and Grandpont.
It means that flooding is expected in these areas and householders and businesses should take immediate action to protect themselves.
The agency said that the Thames was rising quickly around Iffley Lock and flooding of properties close to the river later this evening or overnight was possible. The level of the river is expected to continue to rise over the next 24 hours.
Oxford City Council staff are now installing a flood barrier at Bullstake Close, off Botley Road in West Oxford.
For advice on what action to take, see the Environment Agency website.
