A DRINK-driver travelling down the wrong side of a dual carriageway at 60pmh had her car rammed by police to prevent a serious crash.

Perri Game, 21, below, from Mill Lane, Chalgrove, was today starting a four-month jail sentence for dangerous driving.

Police officers had to use their black BMW X5 to ram into her black Polo to stop it hurtling north along the southbound carriageway of the A3 at Ripley, Surrey.

Pcs Simon Down and Ed Stock joined the A3 at the M25 junction to block Game, causing her to smash into them head-on.

Both police officers suffered whiplash in the crash, which happened in the early hours of January 29, and had to be taken to hospital. Game was also taken to hospital, but was not seriously injured. Both cars were written off.

Pc Down said: “All of a sudden we were aware of these pair of headlights coming over the brow of the hill at quite some speed towards us.

“All I could do was put my vehicle in the position where it could be seen.

“I got all the front blue lights going so it was pretty obvious there was a police car.”

Surrey Police said in a statement: “In a brave split-second decision, Pc Down decided to deliberately manoeuvre to bring Game’s car to a halt.”

Dramatic police video, which can be seen on the Oxford Mail website, shows how Game’s car smashed into the police vehicle at Ripley near Woking.

Acting Ch Insp Richard Mallett, head of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “The video clearly shows the risks that our officers face in the course of carrying out their duties and demonstrates the bravery shown by Simon and Ed that morning.

“Their decisive action almost certainly prevented a catastrophe happening and stopped any other motorist being seriously injured or even killed.”

Witney Gazette:

Game admitted dangerous driving and driving while unfit through alcohol at Guildford Crown Court last month. She was found to have 172 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, where the limit is 80.

Defending, Stuart Western said that Game had lost her job as a carer for the elderly and had suffered from depression and insomnia since the incident.

Jailing her yesterday, Judge Christopher Critchlow said he took into account her early guilty plea and many good character references.

She was disqualified from driving for three years and will have to take another driving test.

She was also ordered to pay £550 costs and an £80 victims’ surcharge.

Is that all? I've known people get worst fines and punishments for lesser traffic offences than this.

Lost her job surely = no wages. How did she manage to get drunk as it's not cheap. Very rarely does the punishment fit the crime. Should have been made to pay for the police car too.
