WITH a determined face and bright green hair, this youngster was certainly taking yesterday’s Camo Day seriously.

Five-year-old Ayaan Vivien was one of hundreds of children across the county who spent the day dressed in their military best to raise money for Armed Forces charity Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA).

Carswell School in Abingdon and Gateway Primary School, Carterton, held a camouflage day and took part in activities such as assault courses and drills.

Carswell pupil Ayaan said: “We were pretending to be soldiers and it was fun.”

Drill instructor Corporal Mike Monaghan, of 4 Logistic Support Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, put the youngsters through their paces at the school, which has a high intake of children from Dalton Barracks, to kick-start their school day.

To take part, every pupil made a small donation to SSAFA.
