NORTH Leigh got their promotion bid back on track with a super 3-1 victory away to Yate Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League on Saturday.

After two successive defeats in Division 1 South & West, the Millers bounced back thanks to goals from Zak Westlake, Jamie Cook and George Seacole.

However, Mark Gee’s side made a bad start, going behind in the third minute.

Yate striker Lewis Powell held off Westlake’s challenge to shoot past keeper James Foster.

But gradually the home side’s midfield of skipper Wayne Turk, Callum McNish, Elliott Osborne-Ricketts and Lance Williams started to dominate their opponents.

After 24 minutes, they were awarded a free-kick ten yards inside the Yate half.

Stuart Hole’s kick was driven into the Yate area and headed on by Lance Williams to the back post, where Westlake coolly finished off with a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Josh Dempsey.

In the second half, North Leigh still having the major share of possession but Yate dangerous on the break, the game was in the balance.

The deadlock was broken on 68 minutes as a left-wing cross into the Yate area by Osborne-Ricketts was met by Cook who stabbed the ball home from close range.

With both sides introducing substitutes, Yate flooded men forward looking for an equaliser.

But the game was put beyond them after 83 minutes.

Substitute Seacole, having been on the field less than two minutes, crashed home a right-footed shot in another Leigh attack.

Yate tried to reply, but the Millers’ defence held firm, although right on time Foster was called upon to make a good save to seal the points.
