PEOPLE across Oxfordshire will be dusting off their trainers, slipping on their trunks and pedalling their bikes for Sport Relief events this weekend.

The bi-annual fundraiser encourages young and old to get out and exercise, all in the name of charity.

Getting in there early on Tuesday this week, children at the Cooper School in Bicester raised money by completing a challenging obstacle course.

The brave students walked and crawled through mud, grass, trees and sand in aid of Sport Relief.

One of those taking part, 12-year-old Finn Sharp, said: "Doing the assault course and run was really fun.

"It was over a mile so was very tiring but it was good because it was to raise money for Sport Relief.

"It was a bit muddy but me and all my friends loved doing it together and trying to beat each other"."

The obstacle course was just one of the many events that thousands of people in Oxfordshire will be taking part in this week.

A three-year old world record is set to be broken in Abingdon, as tennis players try to complete the longest ever doubles match.

White Horse Leisure Centre coach Ed Isard will be leading a group of players as they try to play for 60 hours.

They will be starting at the leisure centre on Friday at 6am, and if all goes to plan they will be able to drop their rackets at 6pm on Sunday night.

Ten-year-old Taran Bolo will also be taking on an extreme physical challenge when he tries to complete a triathlon on Sunday.

Taran, from Iffley, will be attempting to swim 400m, ride 10km on his bike and run three kilometres at the Virgin Active Gym in Woodstock Road.

He said: "I want people to come along to the gym and support me.

"It would be great to see some of my family and friends there."

Staff at Culham Science Centre will be running their own penalty shootout and hula hooping contest.

Swimathons are being held at leisure centres across the county including Leys Pool and Leisure Centre, Barton Leisure Centre and the Windrush Leisure Centre in Witney.

Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron got into the charity spirit two years ago, with his family joining fundraisers in Cutteslowe Park for a mile-long run.

This year's official Oxford Sport Relief Mile will take place in the park on Sunday, from 9.30am to 1pm.

Runners can take on distances of one, three or six miles for charity.

While it is not yet known whether the Prime Minister will take part this year, Samantha Cameron did appear on BBC's Great Sport Relief Bake Off in January.

The baker won the first of the show's four celebrity specials, beating the likes of comedian Jason Manford and former footballer David James.

In 2014 a total of £71, 820,731 was raised nationally for Sport Relief charities.
