Sir – I have just read the letter (Gazette, December 11) by the two year 12 students from Wood Green School, regarding the Ofsted decision demoting it to special measures.
Can I just say, also as an ex-pupil of Wood Green (albeit in the 1960s), what a wonderfully articulate response.
It was long and very measured – and good on the Gazette for publishing it in its entirety.
When I read of the Ofsted decision, it immediately struck as one of those stories where you think: ‘what the heck is going on here’?
One minute a school is classed outstanding, the next it is requiring special measures. Why?
Thank you to Jennifer Pagliuca and Zachary Peake for their informative response and what they feel is the true reason behind the decision.
The letter suggests to me that very little, if anything, is wrong when pupils can demonstrate such excellent letter-writing skills. More so, in this age of ‘innit text-speak’.
And also for enlightening many, myself included, of what looks very much like the real reason behind all of this: that of Academy status.
Shameful tactics, Ofsted.
But then, nothing surprises today. As the old saying goes: ‘You can fool some of the people...’ Thank goodness you haven’t fooled the genuinely intelligent students at Wood Green.
More power to you all at Wood Green at such important points in your lives.
