Sir – On Saturday, June 28, Witney Air Cadets turned out at Sainsbury’s to raise essential funds for the town’s squadron.

The funds raised will be used to buy much needed training materials for both classroom and practical application and to ensure that the squadron, which has been part of the community for 71 years, can continue for many more to come.

As an organisation we are staffed by volunteers and teach 13 to 20-year-olds in a range of aviation-specific subjects as well as others beyond that scope, such as first aid and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, to name but two.

I would like to thank the cadets for their hard work but also Sainsbury’s for allowing us to take up valuable store space and, most importantly, the townsfolk for their generosity Your donations helped us raise £750 and we are enormously grateful for your contributions and support.

Mike Caffrey, Pilot Officer RAF VR (T), 2120 (Witney) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets
