Sir – To commemorate the lives of the 18 Brize Norton residents who died in the service of their country during the First World War, Brize Norton Parish Council has planned a memorial, which is to be unveiled at a ceremony that is to take place on Friday, November 7.
Several of the men listed on the memorial have descendants still living in the village but we would welcome descendants of other families who have moved away to contact us to be part of the event.
The surnames listed on the memorial are Archer, Garratt, Godwin, Timms, Bellenger, Wilkins, Blackwell, Faulkner, Castle, Upstone, Lock, Miles, Parker and Powell.
We would also welcome any information about Brize Norton residents who went to war and returned home.
We are grateful for the grant we have received from West Oxfordshire District Council for this project.
Along with the memorial and ceremony, the information on those villagers who fought in the Great War is being gathered and recorded with a view to being published.
Please contact me with any information you may have by emailing me at clerk@brizenortonparishcouncil.co.uk or write to 52a Station Road, Brize Norton.
Carolyn Peach, Clerk, Brize Norton Parish Council
