Sir – West Oxfordshire District Council's recent motion (last week’s Gazette) calling for county council leader Ian Hudspeth to reopen talks with the developers of the Madley Park estate, in order to return £3.6m of funding so that the Shores Green slip road scheme can progress expeditiously, is most welcome.

As will be any promise to ring fence the remaining £1.3m which remains in the county council’s coffers following the Cogges Link Road fiasco.

It was most gratifying to observe the unanimous vote for the motion at the district council meeting on October 22.

However, one thing puzzles me.

In recent articles, it was stated that the county budget for the link road was £10.3m. £10,337,325, to be precise.

This was the figure supplied in a Freedom of Information Act request by the county council to district and town councillor Duncan Enright in August.

However, at the public inquiry into the Cogges Link Road scheme, the Statement of Common Ground regarding Developer Funding, as agreed by both parties, indicated a figure of £17.23m, some £6.89m more than the council’s recent figure.

Assuming that this £6.89m hasn’t simply slipped down the back of their sofa, perhaps the county council could explain what has happened to it?
