Sir – Now that we are moving forward on the redevelopment of the Corn Exchange in Witney, I would like to repeat the plea I made a few years ago, when a member of the town and district councils, that we relocate the Town Hall from its present position to a far better location in the Corn Exchange.
The present council meets in a small room designed only to hold members and a few members of the public – if indeed they turn up at all.
Now, with an increasing need, as Witney continues to develop, for more and better accommodation for increased numbers of political representatives and officers, surely the time has come to move into a larger and more comfortable environment?
If this move took place, then, perhaps, Witney Museum would be interested in moving part, if not all of its exhibits, into the present Town Hall, which allows easier access than its present site and is more central in its position in the town.
We need better accommodation for councillors, officers and the public, in a developing and vibrant Witney, and this would be an appropriate time to relocate.
David Nicholson, St Mary’s Mead, Witney
