Sir – There are many reasons for the new zebra crossing to be placed at the bridge in Bridge Street, Witney. None that I have heard come from self-interest.
Pollution is very high already. The number of people crossing the West End junction and then Mill Street, from Hailey Road, West End and Woodstock Road needs to be compared to those crossing from the area east of Bridge Street.
The island at the bridge is a point at which all traffic is going as fast as possible to enter or leave the town, it rarely stops for pedestrians to cross.
If cars do stop they are often overtaken by impatient drivers, putting people at even greater risk.
I do not believe that Richard Langridge is acting out of self-interest any more than other residents of Bridge Street.
