JOHN Ward thought a draw was the right result as his Bristol Rovers side pegged back Oxford United late on.
John-Joe O’Toole headed in six minutes from time to cancel out James Constable’s effort and earn a 1-1 draw at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Rovers, who began the day just a point above the relegation zone, created the lion’s share of the game’s chances and Ward was pleased with the response.
The Pirates boss said: “I think we got what we deserved.
“We made some errors and the conditions were tough, but we made some alterations around the team to try and get forward and get back in the game.
“Great credit to my players for getting back in the game.
“I thought the team on the pitch were excellent.
“We know we can improve our game, but we have stuck at it and stood up to a team that are automatic promotion contenders.”
