Witney Town Bowls Club went down to a single shot defeat against some of the country’s top bowlers at the official opening of their new pavilion at on The Leys in Witney.

Work was completed in late 2014 to replace an ageing wooden clubhouse, the new building representing a major investment of more than £250,000 funded by Lottery grants and loans, as well as substantial donations from members.

The Witney Town team held their own against the Bowls England team – selected by the president of Bowls England – before losing 113-112.

Founded in 1910 and with over 100 bowlers, Witney Town is the oldest and largest bowls club in the town.
