THE old took on the new as 100 years of the Oxfordshire County Council staff cricket side was celebrated.

The two teams at Witney Mills were made up of those who had more, and those who had played fewer, than 100 games for the club.

Put into bat, the ‘oldies’ scored 213 all out, helped by an attractive 50 from Imran Shoukat.

Muhammad Basit took two for 18, for the bowling side.

After a celebration tea, the older side struggled to contain their younger opponents, with Dan Edwards anchoring the batting with a 50.

Eshan Hussein hit a sparkling – and very appropriate – undefeated century, allowing the younger team to get over the line with a couple of overs to spare.

Ben Parish, organizer and captain of the losing side, said: “Cricket was the real winner on a near perfect day of celebration, with the teams joined by many former players, family and friends.”
