Witney Utd 6, Bicester Tn 0

WITNEY United’s Friday night experiment proved a big success as they romped to victory over Bicester Town in the Premier Division, in front of their largest league crowd of the season of 198.

Witney keeper John Okole had a lucky escape early on when he handled the ball outside his area, but the referee chose only a yellow card as punishment.

The home side took the lead when Ricky Johnson and Andrew Younie combined, Younie clipping the ball past Bicester keeper Jeff Simm-onds.

New signing Anaclet Odi-hambo fired an effort just over, while Younie also missed the target with an overhead kick.

But Witney’s lead was doubled soon after as JP Mills delivered an inch-perfect cross to Johnson, who headed into the corner.

On the half-hour, Younie made it 3-0, lifting a perfect lob over Simmonds and into the net.

Johnson was denied his second by an offside flag as he turned John McMahon’s cross-shot into the net.

But Johnson was smiling moments later as he netted Witney’s fourth goal.

Butler played in a perfectly-weighted pass and Johnson smashed the ball past Simm-onds.

The opening stages of the second half saw both sides hit the woodwork.

First, Odihambo’s effort came back off a post, while at the other end, Nathan Hunt rattled the bar with a great strike.

But Witney stretched their lead further when Butler’s corner was met by the head of former Bicester defender Lee Henderson.

McMahon and Odihambo went close to extending the lead further, before No 6 arrived 15 minutes from time.

Johnson out-muscled Chris Johnson, before laying the ball into the path of Butler, who drove a low strike into the bottom corner.
