Great & Little Tew dominated their Serious Cricket Home Counties Premeir League Division 2 West match at home to Falkland, but could not quite force home a victory.

After having the worse end of their draw at Reading the previous week, Tew maintained their good start to their first season at this level with an excellent all-round team display.

Having been put in to bat, they reached a healthy 267-8 from their 60 overs, yet their top score was only 56, as all the first six batsmen in the order contributed to their total.

Curtly Slatter led the way, his 56 coming off 78 balls with seven fours, after Harry Smith and Joe White had put on 41 for the first wicket.

The best stand came from Slatter and Ashley Hubbert, who put on 83 for the fourth wicket.

The acceleration in the latter stages came from Lloyd Brock, whose 37 came off only 36 balls with six fours.

Falkland could not have made a worse start to their reply with opener Stephen Pope falling to the first ball bowled by Liam Manley.

Matt Jones led the visitors’ spirited response with 61 from 81 balls before he became one of four victims for Joe White.

When Falkland slipped from 160-4 to 195-8, Tew looked like forcing victory, but Rehman Akram rema-ined defiant with a rapid 63 not out and they were able to play out time.

Tew are still placed third, only four points behind leaders Gerrards Cross whom they meet this Saturday.
