OXFORD Downs were involved in a thrilling draw at Long Marston in Cherwell League Division 1 on Saturday.

Going into the final over, all four results were possible, but Downs finished four runs short.

Johnny Law claimed 5-59 and Matt Woods 3-33 as Marston were bowled out for 206, Archie Hammond top-scoring with 94.

George Sandbach’s 61 meant Downs were always in the hunt, and with Amin Rafiq hitting 32 not out and Wasim Mehmood 31, they got close, but ended up on 203-9.

Great & Little Tew 2nd secured their first win in Division 2, beating visitors Leighton Buzzard Town by two wickets.

Tom Price (3-22) and Joe White (3-24) helped to dismiss the visitors for just 114, before Price hit 34 as Tew edged home at 115-8.

Darryl Woods rolled back the years with an outstanding century, but could not quite inspire his Oxford Downs 2nd side to victory at home to Great Brickhill 2nd in Division 3.

Woods smashed a brilliant 114 and James Florey chipped in with 57 as Downs racked up an impressive 251-6 in their 53 overs.

Bottom club Great Brickhill made no attempt to chase the target, opting instead to shut up, finishing on 149-7.

Minster Lovell eased to an eight-wicket win at Witney Mills to continue their unbeaten record and stay top of Division 4.

Choosing to bat first, Mills started well with Pete Claridge making 45, but they slipped from 97-4 to 128 all out, against some superb bowling by Leigh Smith, who finished with 5-50 from 17 overs.

In their reply, Minster lost openers Harry Ebsworth and Nathan Harris to the bowling of Ollie Burney.

But an unbroken third-wicket stand of 92 between youngster Ollie Mersh and Connor Tinsley saw Minster to 130-2 in the 31st over to wrap up victory.

Tinsley finished 48 not out with five fours, while Mersh’s 41 not out contained three fours and two sixes.

Veteran Paul Hemming hit 67 not out and Ian Harris 64, but it was not enough for victory as Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd had to settle for a draw against hosts Thame Town 2nd.

Shipton posted 229-7 in their 53 overs, Matt Ridgway taking 3-53.

James Neilson’s 69 meant Thame were always in the hunt.

But they ran out of time and finished just eight runs short on 221-8.

Minster Lovell 2nd went top of Division 7 after a comfortable six-wicket win against visitors Bicester & North Oxford.

Ben Halsey (4-31) and Ben Spencer (4-42) combined to dismiss Bicester for 133, and then Henry Crowther scored 62 to steer Minster to 137-4.

Simon Dickens (4-18) and Dee Jarvis (4-20) helped Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd to a nine-wicket win at home to Wolverton Town 2nd.

Wolverton were all out for 98, before Blake Richardson (60no) saw Shipton home to 102-1.
