FOOTBALL: West Witney aces celebrate double

Witney & District FA Premier Division champions West Witney lifted the Fred Ford Cup with a 2-0 win in the final against Combe at Clanfield in midweek.

First-half goals from Chris Bowles and Kevin Lewis saw West complete a league and cup double.

Despite plenty of possession in the second half, the Division 2 outfit could not find the breakthrough.

Ben Butler netted a double as Ducklington crushed Minster Lovell 4-1 in the quarter-finals of the Senior Cup on Saturday.

Jordan Cross and Damon Tolley completed their tally, with substitute Cody Davies replying.

Chipping Norton needed a penalty shoot-out to beat Chadlington away from home after the clash ended 2-2 at full time.

George Slatter netted a double, with Warwick Thompkins and Kieron Watts scoring for Chippy, who ultimately held their nerve to progress 5-4 in the shoot-out.

Spartan Rangers Res will face Brize Norton Res in the final of the Jack Busby Memorial Trophy after beating Carterton Town B 2-1 away from home on Thursday.

Lee Litton scored for the home side, but goals from Jono Reeves and Ben Allen sealed it for Spartan.

But on Saturday, Carterton Town B tasted victory as they beat FC Hollybush Res 5-1 in the Supplementary Cup quarter-finals, thanks to a hat-trick from John Smailes. Dan Sollis and Chris Jones got their other goals.

Ducklington A defeated Charl-bury Res 2-1.

Antony Lune and Gary O’Donovan both on target for the hosts.

Gerard Morgan scored a double for Brize Norton as they moved four points clear at the top of Division 1 with a 3-1 win against Hanborough Res.

FC Nomads thrashed Eynsham 6-2, Chris Lawrence bagging a brace.

Steve Bircher, Josh Truby, Jono Woodward and an own goal made up their tally. John Ayres (2) replied.

North Leigh drew 1-1 with Freeland, with Josh Russell scoring for the hosts and Adi Williams hitting back.

Combe were crowned Division 2 champions with a 1-0 home success over title rivals, Carterton Rangers, Simon Baker scoring the winner.

Rangers now need other results to go their way if they are to earn promotion.

Kirtlington’s hopes of promotion ended in a 5-2 defeat against Bampton Town.

Jamie Austin hit a hat-trick with Harry Cameron also among the scorers.

Milton won 3-2 at home to FC Mills, thanks to a treble from Pip Benfield.

Rob Seymour and Rob DeBanks netted for Mills.

Wootton closed the gap on at the top of Division 3 with a 3-1 win over Kingham Res who were relegated as a result.

Mitch Larman (2) and Tom Faulkner scored the decisive goals with Luke Herbert netting for the visitors.

Jamie Goodwin and Adam Bolley netted trebles as Division 4 champions Tower Hill thrashed Eynsham SCC Res 14-3.

Simon Winstone, Conor Tinsley, Elliot Graham, Jessie Lawrence, Joe Brown, Ian Wright and veteran James Minion, playing his last game before retiring, sealed it.
