NORTH Leigh slipped out of the play-off positions as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at struggling Bridgwater Town in Division 1 South & West of the Evo-Stik Southern League on Saturday.

Mark Gee’s side had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty in the first half after Morgan Williams was fouled in the area, but Jamie Cook’s spot-kick was well saved by home keeper Jake Viney.

The hosts broke the deadlock on 48 minutes when a mix-up between Stuart Hole and goalkeeper James Foster allowed Isaac Reid a tap in.

The setback seemed to galvanise North Leigh and they stormed forward looking for the equaliser.

It came in the 70th minute as Jon Else cut inside a defender out on the right and hit a left-foot cross that Callum McNish headed firmly past Viney.

At this point there looked only one possible winner as the Millers rushed forward.

However, they were undone by some loose play in the 84th minute that allowed striker Reeko Best to hold off a challenge and squeeze a shot that beat keeper James Foster at his near post.

The Millers had rushed through the signing of midfielder Lance Williams who transferred from neighbours Didcot Town with the registration only being approved hours before kick-off.

Williams started on the bench before making a brief appearance as substitute.

North Leigh will be hoping to get back to winning ways at home to Swindon Supermarine this Saturday.
