NORTH Leigh boss John Brough is optimistic that his side can continue their cup exploits and cause another upset this weekend.

The Millers entertain former champions Kingstonian in the third qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday.

This weekend's visitors have lifted the Trophy on two previous occasions – in 1999 and 2000 – but Brough is not intimidated by their opponents' illustrious history.

"That was a long time ago – back when I was still playing," he said.

"The scalp for us is beating a side from a higher division, not their history."

Like Folkestone Invicta, who North Leigh beat 3-2 away from home in the previous round, Kingstonian ply their trade one level higher than the Millers in the Ryman League Premier Division.

But Brough's side have already defeated higher-league opposition on three occasions this season, reaching the furthest point in the club's history in both the Trophy and the Emirates FA Cup.

"It certainly gives us belief that we can beat sides from the level above," said Brough.

"But but you can’t necessarily compare Folkestone and Kingstonian.

"They’re only a few points apart in the league, but they’re two different sides.

"We know we’ll need to be at our best again and hopefully we can carry on our form of recent weeks."

But although his side are potentially just 90 minutes away from advancing beyond the qualifying rounds of the competition for the first time and potentially setting up a meeting with a full-time Vanarama National League side, Brough is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

He said: "Of course it would be fantastic to get ourselves into the hat and get another big club and a chance to test ourselves against a side of that quality.

"But we can’t look too far ahead or we’ll get slapped in the face.

"These cup games are a nice distraction – but the league is my priority."
