NORTH Leigh boss John Brough praised top-scorer George Seacole’s incredible run of form in front of goal, writes MATTHEW BRUCE.

Seacole notched goal number 21 for the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw in the Buildbase FA Trophy first round at South Park on Saturday.

The result set up a replay at Eynsham Park, with the huge incentive of a trip to Vanarama National League leaders Tranmere Rovers on January 14 awaiting the winners following Monday’s second-round draw.

The replay, scheduled for last night, was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and has been rearranged for next Tuesday.

Seacole has been vital in the side’s cup runs this season and Brough backed the in-form striker to continue his hot streak in front of goal.

He said: “That’s 21 goals for him now and we’re not even at Christmas yet.

“We’ve still got a lot of games to go, especially now we’re catching up, and if he doesn’t get 30-35 by the end of the season I think he’ll be disappointed.

“When you’ve got goalscorers in your team you’re always in with a chance.”

The Millers took the lead within a minute in their first match at this stage of the competition, only to be pegged back before half-time.

And while Brough was disappointed not to finish the job on Saturday, he also admitted his relief at the end of a difficult 90 minutes.

“Credit to the opposition, they had a game plan and I think it worked quite well,” he said.

“I think we lacked concentration a little at times and we didn’t do the ugly side of the game well enough in the first half.

“We were on the back foot and I think we were slightly lucky to go in at half-time at 1-1.

“At that point I would probably have taken a draw.”

The Millers were forced to play for the final 20 minutes with ten men after Michael Hopkins was shown a second yellow card.

But rather than play for the draw, Brough’s side instead went on the attack and could even have snatched victory late on.

“We never really got into our stride until probably after we’d gone down to ten men,” Brough said.

“We seemed to improve as a team once we went down to ten and we worked that little bit harder because we were minus one.

“We pushed Jamie Cook into midfield and he got loads of ball and created some chances.”
