JOLYON Palmer is relishing the prospect of tackling Singapore’s unique street circuit this weekend.
The British driver for the Enstone-based Renault team retired early on in the Italian Grand Prix, but he is hoping a change of scenery will improve his outlook.
And Palmer has good memories of the track from previous years.
He said: “I love Singapore and it’s a totally different challenge from Monza.
“It’s a street race with close walls taking place at night so it’s a unique event on the calendar.
“I’ve raced and won there in the GP2 Series and it was one of my best wins. In fact, I raced there two years running and both years were very good.
“It’s a better opportunity for a stronger result.”
Although the race marks the start of the long-haul races at the end of the season, Palmer’s teammate Kevin Magnussen revealed the team have a way to avoid the jet lag.
He said: “Although it’s a night race, we all stay on European time – we get up late in the day and come to the track from around four o’clock in the afternoon, which means that it’s morning in Europe.
“Even though we race at night it gets very hot in Singapore and that’s a challenge in itself, but it should be fine.”
